About MCRC

The Michigan Cancer Research Consortium NCORP (MCRC-NCORP) is one of only 46 community based research programs supported by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

About the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP)

The NCI Community Clinical Research Program (NCORP) is a comprehensive clinical trials network for distributing the latest cancer prevention, control, symptom management and treatment findings to the community. Created in 1983 by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the 46 currently funded NCORPs represent 340 hospitals and over 10,000 specialists across the country, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. NCORPs work collaboratively with medical centers, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons and other specialists to provide patients access to quality clinical trials.

The mission of the NCORP Program is to increase access for all patients to state-of-the-art cancer treatment.  We achieve this by linking patients in their communities with leading clinical cooperative groups and large cancer treatment centers located throughout the United States and Canada.

About the Michigan Cancer Research Consortium NCI Community Oncology Research Program

The Michigan Cancer Research Consortium NCORP (MCRC-NCORP) is a comprehensive clinical trial program that consists of medical centers that have met the highest standards of excellence in conducting cancer clinical trials. The program consists of thirteen hospitals in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Florida that collaboratively enroll hundreds of patients on clinical trials each year. MCRC-NCORP consists of over 100 medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons and other specialists who work hard to deliver exceptional cancer care. The MCRC-NCORP is one of 46 research programs established by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to provide patients with access to national cancer research studies while remaining in their own communities. As a national research center, the MCRC-NCORP recruits patients to participate in investigational cancer studies designed to determine ways to best prevent, detect, diagnose, and treat cancer.

MCRC NCORP Program History and Membership

The Michigan Cancer Research Consortium is a well-established NCORP. This program was funded by the NCI in 1994. It was first established at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, now known as Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital. All other Trinity Health Southeast Michigan cancer center sites are part of MCRC. These include the facilities in Brighton, Chelsea, Livonia, Oakland, and Canton. Other MCRC-NCORP health centers, outside of Trinity Health, include Genesys-Hurley Cancer Institute in Flint, Henry Ford St. John Hospital in Detroit, Henry Ford St. John Macomb-Oakland in Warren, University of Michigan Health -Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MyMichigan Health Saginaw. MCRC-NCORP has also expanded, outside of Michigan, to include Lehigh Valley Health Network in Pennsylvania and Trinity Health Holy Cross Medical Center in Florida.

A leader in the National Cancer Institute's Clinical Cooperative Group Program is the Alliance NCORP Research Base. Alliance is based in Chicago, IL. It is our primary regional research base for clinical trials. Because of this affiliation, physicians, scientists and other staff members from the Mayo Cancer Center are available to consult with our physicians and researchers at any time. In addition, the Michigan Cancer Research Consortium NCORP staff meet regularly with doctors and nurses from other parts of the United States to review current research and assist in the development of new clinical trials.

The Michigan Cancer Research Consortium NCORP is also affiliated with other research bases throughout the United States. These include:
